A journalist by education, Amy is also a certified educator who has taught high school journalism and English courses, and tutored college nursing students. She is a skilled educational and corporate training curriculum writer, and conducted workshops, "Nursing the Nurse," for the nursing profession.

Amy is a member of the Women in Aviation International, National Association of Search and Rescue, American Rosie the Riveter Association, American Classical League, and the National Military Families Association . A native of Texas, Amy was raised within the sound range of the F-16 engine, flew a Cessna 172 and loved the 'touch and go' lesson the most, attended ground school courses at SimuFlite where she also flew a corporate jet simulator, and later flew the Blackhawk simulator at Fort Hood, TX
